Goaltender Jett Alexander set a league record with his ninth shutout of the season as the North York Rangers beat the St. Michael’s Buzzers 5-0 on Friday (Jan. 18) on the road.

Fedor Rudakov got things going finding the back of the net at 4:21 left in the first period. Newly acquired Dante Spagnuolo, who played his first game for North York registered his first assist on the goal. Grayden Gottschalk doubled up the lead in the second firing his 20th goal of the season at 11:48.

In the third, Brandon Yeamans registered three points. It started with Aidan Casey setting him up for his 25 goals of the season at 2:50. The 20-year-old return the favour setting up Casey at 15:31. Yeamans scored again with less than 20 seconds left in the third.

Alexander stopped all 25 shots he faced for his league-high 27th win of the season and broke a OJHL record.

Two-time OJHL goalie of the year Charlie Finn of the Kingston Voyageurs set the previous record of eight in the 2012-13 season. The records date back to the 1972-73 Ontario Provincial Junior Hockey League season.

North York is back in action on Sunday (Jan. 20) afternoon against the Mississauga Chargers. Puck drop is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
