North York, Ontario – The North York Rangers would like to congratulate Nick Campoli, Joey Maziarz and Jett Alexander on getting named to Canada East’s roster for the upcoming World Junior A Challenge.
Campoli has proven himself to be one of the OJHL’s most dangerous offensive forwards. Committed to Clarkson University in the NCAA, Campoli was named the OJHL’s top prospect last year after recording 32 points in just 20 games. Currently first in team scoring with 30 points in 29 games, Campoli was one of two players drafted to the NHL from the OJHL, going to the newest expansion team, the Vegas Golden Knights. Campoli had a big training camp, which included both of Canada’s goals on Monday against the OJHL ‘97-born All-Stars.
Maziarz has had a wonderful impact for the Rangers since joining the club last year, getting named to the OJHL’s 2nd All-Prospect team last year. In 29 games this season, Maziarz has put up three goals and 14 points while earning lots of ice time in his sophomore campaign. Maziarz has become one of the best shutdown defenders in the league, becoming a nuisance for any team that dares to battle him.
Considered one of the best goalies in the OJHL, Alexander has posted nine wins and boasts a .932 SV% in 18 games played. Last year, after starting the season with Georgetown, Alexander returned home to the Rangers, where he’s been near the top in all goalie stats in his first season as an OJHL starting goalie. Alexander was also named to the NHL’s most recent Central Scouting Watch List for the upcoming draft, set to take place in Dallas, Texas this June.
Campoli, Maziarz and Alexander all recently represented the Rangers at the Eastern Canada Cup Challenge in Trenton, an event where all three players impressed scouts and fans alike.
North York is also one of two teams in the OJHL to have three players named to the roster, with the Wellington Dukes being the other.
The 2017 World Junior A Challenge will begin with Canada East battling Russia in Truro, Nova Scotia on December 10th.
