In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Cobourg Cougars escaped with a 3-2 victory over the North York Rangers.
No lead was more than one goal during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Patrick MacDonald at 17:42 of the third period.
Cobourg was led by MacDonald, who registered one goal.
The Cougars stifled North York’s power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Cobourg kept the Rangers’ goalie busy throughout the game, and Jeremie Lintnermade 34 saves on 37 shots.
Cobourg also got points from Matt Carroll, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Cobourg also got a goal from Brenden Locke as well. In addition, Cobourg received assists from Liam Grande, Matt Goeree, and Theo Lewis, who contributed one each.
North York excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances.
The Rangers were helped by Louis Kereakou, who racked up one goal. Kereakou scored 12:05 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Tyler Currie provided the assist. Joshua Dame also scored for North York. Other players who recorded assists for North York were Nick Zanette, who had one.
Tyler Lewis recorded 22 saves for the Cougars. Cobourg incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. North York incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
