Defenders help Rangers scrape out win in Newmarket

Offence from defence was the name of the game as North York escaped from Newmarket with a 5-2 win over the defending Northeast Conference champion Hurricanes and improved to .500 on the year.

Blue-liners Pat Piacentini and Alex Leader both had three points to help lift the Rangers to their first two-game win streak of the season.

John Carpino also had his second straight multi-point outing with three helpers on the evening, giving him a league fourth best eight assists thus far in the campaign.

Corey Kalk added a goal and an assist on the evening, and the Dartmouth commit has six points in the last two games.

Rookie goaltender Gianluca Baggetta made 29 saves for his second win in as many starts this season. His save percentage now sits at an impressive .944 with four goals allowed on 72 shots to date.

The Rangers are next in action on Saturday night when they travel to Etobicoke to take on the Toronto Patriots, puck drops at 8:00 p.m.
