Former North York Rangers’ defenceman Mark Friedman was selected by the Philadelphia Flyers in the 3rd round, 86th overall at the National Hockey League draft last Saturday.

Friedman, 18, played 54 games with the Rangers between 2010 and 2012, accumulating 31 points over that time.

He was named an OJHL Second Team All-Prospect after the 2011-12 season.

A very skilled offensive blue liner, the Toronto native spent the last two seasons with the Waterloo Black Hawks of the United States Hockey League and has committed to Bowling Green State University for the 2014-15 Western Collegiate Hockey Association campaign.

The Black Hawks had drafted Friedman in the 4th round of the 2012 USHL draft, while his Ontario Hockey League rights had been owned by the Windsor Spitfires.
