NORTH YORK, ONT. – The North York Rangers would like to congratulate defenceman Joey Maziarz on committing to Mercyhurst University of the NCAA for 2019.
Maziarz has had a wonderful impact for the Rangers since joining the club last year, getting named to the OJHL’s 2nd All-Prospect team last year. In 31 games this season, Maziarz has put up five goals and 15 points while earning lots of ice time in his sophomore campaign. Maziarz was one of the top rookies on the Rangers a year ago, with his five goals and 24 points from the blue line making him an OJHL Second Team All-Prospect.
Maziarz has become one of the best shutdown defenders in the league, becoming a nuisance for any team that dares to battle him. Earlier in the season, Maziarz joined fellow defenceman Peter Muzyka on OJHL Hawerchuck for the Eastern Canada Cup tournament, an event involving five Rangers players. Just prior to the Christmas break, Maziarz represented Canada East with Jett Alexander and Nick Campoli at the World Junior A Challenge, capping off a tremendous 2007 for the youngster.
Maziarz joins Rangers alumnus Matt Whittaker as members of the Rangers to commit to Mercyhurst. Maziarz is the fourth current Ranger to earn a commitment in the NCAA, joining Harrison Rees (University of Connecticut), Muzyka (Cornell University) and Campoli (Clarkson University), with more expected before the end of the season.
Come watch Maziarz and the rest of the Rangers on Wednesday evening at the Herb when the team takes on the Milton Icehawks at 7:45 PM. The Rangers have won five of their past seven games, recording points in all of them. Hope to see you there!
