Liam Kerins led the way with two goals and an assist while his linemates Gabriel Valenzuela and Zach Fung both added three helpers as the North York Rangers won their third in a row with a resounding 8-2 victory over the Orangeville Flyers on Sunday.
Adam Valadao scored two goals as well while four different players scored for the first time in their Rangers Jr. A careers.
Afterwards, North York captain Patrick Piacentini had a very simple answer for the Rangers’ dominance.
“I think the boys bought into the system and worked hard for a full 60 minutes,” he said.
“We stayed out of the box, which we allowed us to play to our strengths, and we were able to feed off that and put some pucks in the net.”
Midget call-ups Brandon Ku, Aric Smith and Louis Kereakou all scored their first junior goals while Tye Campbell’s gorgeous short-handed marker at 9:08 of the second period was his first in the red, white and blue jersey.
“I thought the call-ups were exceptional,” Piacentini added.
“They did exactly as they were asked to do and the offence that they added really was a cherry on top.”
North York will look to make it four in a row on Thursday night when it travels to Kingston to take on the Voyageurs.
The Rangers were without John Carpino, Corey Kalk and Matthew Whittaker as all three were at the selection camp for Team Canada East, with an eye on playing in the World Junior A Challenge in Nova Scotia in early November.
