The Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL) announced on Tuesday morning that defenceman Joey Maziarz was named the Kewl South-East Conference Player-of-the-Month for January.
The Waterloo, Ont., four goals and 12 assists for 16 points in eight games. His four goals included two on the power play.
In his third season with the Rangers, the 19-year-old has set career-highs in all statistical categories. His 50 points (13 goals, 37 assists) in 49 regular season games sits second in the OJHL for points by a defencemen. Maziarz’s previous career-high was 24 in 2016-2017.
Committed to NCAA Division 1 Mercyhurst, Maziarz played minor hockey in the GTHL for the Toronto Marlies, Toronto Jr. Canadiens and Vaughan Kings.
North York holds the second best record in the OJHL (37-8-1-4) and was ranked the eighth best team in the CJHL this week.
