Michael Morgan scored the game winner and added another as the North York Rangers cruised past the Mississauga Chargers 5-3 on Saturday evening.
The Rangers have now won seven of their last eight and sit only two points adrift of first place in the Ontario Junior Hockey League South Division.
Morgan opened the scoring at 7:11 of the first period with a perfectly aimed wrister from the slot, and Will Reilly doubled the lead just under 10 minutes later when he ended off an individual rush with a wraparound finish.
Gabriel Valenzuela added the club’s third shorthanded at 14:59, beating a defender to the middle of the ice and whipping a wrist shot from the slot past Mississauga goaltender Alex Lepore.
Morgan’s winner came under a minute later finishing off a two-on-one rush shorthanded with Ted Hunt.
Louis Kereakou completed North York’s scoring at the 16:42-mark of the second period by one-timing a nice feed from Nick Zanette. It was Kereakou’s first of the season.
Zach Sternbach, Domenic Commissio, and Jordan Addesi added the goals for the Chargers.
Gianluca Baggetta made 22 saves on the evening for his 11th victory of the campaign.
The Rangers have a quick turnaround as they take on the visiting Buffalo Jr. Sabres at the Herb Carnegie Centennial Arena on Sunday afternoon. Puck drops at 3 p.m.
