The North York Rangers started their two-game weekend with a victory, topping the Mississauga Chargers by a score of 2-1 at Port Credit Arena.
The Rangers got off to an unlucky start off of an unfortunate bounce. Kyle Lewis would grab the puck from teammate Brandon Yeamans in the high slot before sending a quick wrist shot into the North York net, giving the Chargers the 1-0 lead 53 seconds in.
At 14:26, Matthew Hubbarde tied it up after a beautiful wrist shot. Nick Leshuk made a spot to Hubbarde in a similar spot to Lewis before blowing a shot past Luca Durante, knotting the battle up at a goal each.
The Rangers were controlling puck possession throughout the battle, but Durante stood his ground. North York would pot one home on the 46th opportunity of the night when Josh Dame snagged one after a scramble in front, touching the puck last after Grayden Gottschalk previously had it to make it 2-1, giving the Rangers the lead with under eight minutes to go. It was enough to secure the win for the boys in blue, giving them a good start to the weekend.
The Rangers won’t get much time to rest as they’ll be back in action on Sunday afternoon, a 3:00 PM contest against Markham at the Herb. We hope to see you there!
