North York – June 6, 2025 The North York Rangers Jr. A hockey club is proud to announce the hiring of Andrew Kalapaca as the team’s new head coach. With over 15 years of high-level coaching experience and a deep-rooted passion for the game, Kalapaca brings a powerful new voice to the organization, one that is focused on accountability, energy, and a competitive edge.
Kalapaca is no stranger to the intense pace and high standards of junior hockey. Having both played and been around this league for years,he understands the unique challenges and opportunities that come with developing young talent in one of the top junior leagues in Canada.
“This is a proud moment,” Kalapaca said. “I grew up in this league, and to now have the opportunity to lead the North York Rangers is incredibly humbling and exciting. I know what it takes to compete and win, and I’m ready to bring that standard here.”
Known for his tireless work ethic and high energy, Kalapaca has built a reputation over nearly two decades as a coach who gets the most out of his players. His teams have consistently displayed hard work and grit, values he plans to in still in North York from day one.
“We’re going to be competitive. We’re going to play with purpose,” he emphasized. “This is a fresh start. I want to bring a new voice, a new attitude, and a new standard to this team.”
Over the past three years, Kalapaca has worked closely with North York’s President of Hockey Operations, Adam Henrich, who has full confidence in Kalapaca’s ability to lead the charge.
“I’ve had the pleasure of working with Andrew over the last three years, and there’s no question about his commitment, his drive, and his ability to change a team’s culture,” said Henrich. “He absolutely loves the game and loves being at the rink. That energy is contagious. Players thrive off of him, not just because of his knowledge, but because they know he’s all in. That’s the kind of leader we want behind the bench.”
Off the ice, Kalapaca is also a member of the Kalapaca Family Foundation, supporting the Streetsville Derby at Vic Johnston Community Centre, reflecting his strong community values.
The Rangers are entering a pivotal phase, aiming to become more competitive and more consistent across the board. With Kalapaca’s leadership, the team is poised to play a fast, physical, and accountable brand of hockey that reflects the values of both its new coach and its management.
