The North York Rangers have acquired forward Luca Rea from the Pickering Panthers in exchange for forward Myles Perry this week.
The Rangers are very familiar with Rea. The forward spent the last two hockey seasons between 2018-2020 in the organization development system. The last time he played a hockey season, he registered 12 goals and 11 assists for 23 points in 33 games with the U18 Rangers of the GTHL. Rea was invited to the 19th annual Midget ‘AAA’ All-Star game. He did not look out of place with the top players in the league as he registered four points and was named MVP of the game. The 2019 Sarnia Sting eighth-round pick made quite an impression in his only game as an AP call for the Rangers. He recorded a goal and an assist in a 4-1 victory over the Lindsay Muskies on January 5th. The 5’11 forward has experience playing center and wing throughout his career and will be an excellent addition to the Rangers young forward crop.
Myles Perry had a great rookie season with the Rangers in 2019-2020. The forward was placed on the first line with teammate Tyler Flack and Cole O’Hara early in the season and ended the campaign with 16 goals and 16 assists for 32 points in 53 games. He added depth scoring North York needed during the regular season but more particularly in the playoffs. The 2018 Mississauga Steelheads draft pick put up five goals and an assist for six points in the five-game first-round series upset over the Toronto Jr. Canadiens. We wish him nothing but the best moving forward.
The Rangers open their season next Sunday, October 3rd, when they host the Caledon Admirals at the Herbert H. Carnegie Centre. Puck drop is at 3 pm.
