The North York Rangers failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the Oakville Blades shook off a number of penalties to win, 5-2.
Oakville excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in seven chances. The Blades kept North York’s goalie busy throughout the game, and Gianluca Baggetta made 28 saves on 33 shots.
Oakville was helped by Ryan Garvey, who racked up one goal and one assist. Garvey scored short handed 6:16 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Oakville. The Blades found themselves down a man on Zachary Gallant‘s cross checking. Jackson Balesassisted on the tally. Oakville also had goals scored by Ryan Burns and Josh Kosack, who each put in two. In addition, Oakville received assists from Brandon Hughes, Vince Palermo, and Greg Campbell, who each chipped in one and Tanner Shaw and Tyler Burns, who contributed two each.
The Rangers were led by Jake Harris, who grabbed one goal. Harris scored 12:05 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Oakville. Zack Fisher picked up the assist. Gabriel Valenzuela also scored for North York. Other players who recorded assists for North York were Michael Morgan and Will Reilly, who each chipped in one.
Oakville’s Brendan McGlynn stopped 28 shots out of the 30 that he faced. The Blades incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. North York incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
