The North York Rangers edged the St. Michaels Buzzers 6-2 to extend their winning streak to eight games on Sunday (Oct. 21) afternoon at the Hebert H. Carnegie Centre.
Nick Leshuk got the Rangers on the board just past the two minute mark of the first period. On the powerplay, Cole O’Hara shot found Leshuk wide open in the slot for his eighth goal and team-high 19th point. Over 11 minutes later off the draw, Austin Brimmer worked his way to the dot and rifled it past goalie Jack Watson for his first career OJHL goal. Once again on the powerplay, this time O’Hara faked the shot and handed it off to Leshuk to do the rest at 17:32.
The Buzzers responded just 19 seconds into the second period thanks to Ryan Alexander. Five in a half minutes later, defenceman Joey Maziarz streaked down the left hand side and sniped the opposite top corner to regain the three goal lead.
The Buzzers cut the deficit in half off Francesco Luca’s point shot at 8:25 in the third. Brimmer won the puck on the forecheck and spotted Adam Panacci in the slot. His pass was a bit behind, but Panacci was able kick the puck to himself and cap off the play with the marker. Ryan Radisa added a powerplay marker later on to push the lead to 6-2.
North York push their winning streak to seven games. Next up for the team are the Toronto Jr. Canadiens on Wednesday night at the Hebert H. Carnegie Centre. It all start at 8:00 p.m.
