The North York Rangers will finish the weekend with four points in three games after a 2-1 loss to the Oakville Blades on Sunday.
The Blades found the back of the net first to draw blood. At 16:54 on the power play, Thomas Maia’s shot was punted away by Jett Alexander, but Spencer Kersten was there to pick it up. Kersten’s shot would beat Alexander’s blocker for the 1-0 goal.
The Rangers needed a quick goal in the second to get them back into contention, and it took 48 seconds for North York to pot one past Chris Elliot. Noah Jordan took the puck around the net and sent a quick wrist shot top corner, tying the game up at one apiece.
With five minutes left in the second, the Blades took back their lead. Anthony Aguanno would take a pass from defence partner Nick Boehmer and danced around the Rangers defence, squeaking the puck in an open spot to make it 2-1. The Rangers would get a goal as the buzzer sounded, but it wasn’t enough to spark the comeback as the Blades would escape with the 2-1 win.
North York will get most of the week off before traveling to St. Michael’s Arena to take on the Buzzers on Friday evening. The Blades will host Burlington next Sunday for the next home game, a 3:00 PM start at the Herb. Hope to see you there!
