The North York Rangers have hired Arron Alphonso and Sean Teakle to the positions of assistant coach under new bench boss Geoff Schomogyi, the club reported Friday.

Alphonso, 27, is a native of Orangeville, and joins the Rangers from his hometown Flyers where he held a similar position.

The former Lakehead University forward played his junior hockey with the Ottawa 67’s and Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds, before establishing himself in the coaching ranks, and earning a career that has included a prestigious OHL Cup with Toronto Marlies minor midgets two seasons ago.

“Arron brings Junior ‘A’ coaching experience and a great resume,” said Schomogyi.

“He is very passionate about the game and brings a lot of understanding and knowledge of coaching junior-aged players.”

Alphonso has been tasked with running the defence-corps this season.

Teakle, 27, hails from Mississauga, and featured as a forward in well over 100 games in the different incarnations of the current Ontario Junior Hockey League in the late 2000s. He was a member of very successful Oakville Blades and Georgetown Raiders clubs.

Previously involved in the Junior ‘A’ coaching ranks with the Milton IceHawks, Teakle has also worked as head coach of the tremendously successful Hill Academy Prep U18 hockey program.

“Sean is a young coach who is great addition to the staff,” said Schomogyi.

“He has coached in the league before with Milton and also scouts with the Ottawa 67’s in the OHL. He is great skills instructor and will round out our coaching staff nicely.”
