The North York Rangers split a pair of contest over the weekend, but picked up a valuable two points against a division rival.

North York @ Mississauga

The Rangers kicked off their week travelling down to Mississauga to battle the Chargers. Even though it’s still early season, these were a valuable two points for both teams.

North York got off to a slow start and Mississauga took advantage of it. Just before the midway mark of the second, Mathew Sop tapped in the Matteo Pecchia fed to open up the scoring. They maintained the lead after 20 minutes.

The Rangers responded quickly in the second. Less than four minutes, Myles Perry ripped his eighth goal of season to even up the score at ones. For the second straight period, only one team was able to find the back of the net. Score was 1-1 heading into the final period.

North York once again got on the board early in the frame thanks to the power play. Tyler Flack tipped in his ninth of the season to take the lead. The Chargers responded thanks to Sop again at 6:58. The Rangers retook the lead thanks to Cole O’Hara banking in a shot off Chargers goalie Frank Boal’s leg. Aydin Parekh added an empty netter to seal the deal.

Eli Shiller made 37 saves in the victory to improve to 4-6-1 on the season.

North York vs Buffalo

The North York Rangers looked to make it a perfect weekend when they hosted the Buffalo Jr. Sabres on Sunday (Nov. 17) afternoon.

Buffalo got off to the fast start scoring three goals in the first 15 minutes. That led to the Rangers pulling starting James Gray quickly to spark the team. Unfortunately the push back didn’t happen in the second. Buffalo recorded another three goals in the frame. North York found the back of the net twice in the period. Maxwell Donohoe recorded his first junior A goal, while Noah Holm scored with 1.1 seconds left to make it 6-2 after 40 minutes.

The Rangers kept their power play dominance alive with Michael Pereira battling in a rebound only 41 seconds into the third period. North York had a few more chances, but weren’t able to score any more goals as they fell 6-3 to Buffalo.

Eli Shiller made 28 of a possible 31 saves in relief of Gray.
