Matthew Whittaker exploded for four points and Nick Zanette potted the winner at the 8:47 mark of the third period as the North York Rangers (5-7) downed the Mississauga Chargers (3-11) 6-4 on Saturday.

The Rangers were behind 2-0 after one period of play, but battled back with four goals in the second and two more in the third.

Ted Hunt added two goals and an assist for his third multi-point effort of the season, while Gabriel Valenzuela, Michael Morgan and Zanette also all chipped in with multi-point games.

Gianluca Baggetta made 28 saves for his fifth victory of the season.

Whittaker’s evening matched his career high for points in a game, and his 21 points in 12 contests thus far is only five short of his career high for a season.

Alex Lepore faced 40 shots in the Mississauga goal and picked up his seventh defeat of the campaign.

North York will look to build on the win on Sunday afternoon when it hosts the Oakville Blades. Puck drops at the Herb Carnegie Centennial Arena at 3 p.m.
