Rangers Vs. Canadiens Game Summary

September 13, 2009

8:00 PM EDT

In their second game the North York Rangers fought hard to preserve their first win of the season against the Toronto Jr. Canadiens.

The high scoring affair was started off by North York’s Mike Hollander, with his first of the season, but Toronto quickly replied with two goals to end the first period up 2-1.  Some encouraging words must have been said in the locker room during the first intermission because the Rangers came roaring back with a 5 goal period to put the team up 6-4 going into the 3rd.

The Rangers were looking for some insurance to help close off the Canadiens, but didn’t get any help when Toronto scored three unanswered goals early in the third to take the lead with 9 minutes to go in the game.   North York’s L. Colavecchia tied the game up 7-7 on a power play goal with 4 minutes left to send the game into overtime, which eventually solved nothing.

Goalie Lane Floro stole the show during the shootout stopping all 4 shots which gave teammate V.Piccone the opportunity to score the game winning shootout goal. Floro’s amazing performance, stopping 42 of 49 shots, earned him the number one star of the game.

Mooney, Wise, Morgan, Piccone and Yolevski potted the other 5 goals for the North York Rangers.

North York Rangers play Markham Friday night at 7:30 PM.
