The North York Rangers survived a determined comeback attempt by the Orangeville Flyers on the way to a 3-2 win.
North York made the score 3-1 on a goal by Ryan Hunt at 7:15 in the third period, and Orangeville got as close as 3-2 when Derek Topatigh scored 19:10 into the third period.
Nick Campoli had two goals and one assist to lead the Rangers. Campoli scored the first of his two goals at 11:15 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Louis Kereakouprovided the assist. Campoli’s next tally made the score 2-1 North York with 15:17 left in the third period. Keegan Blasby picked up the assist.
North York’s offense rang up 36 shots on the Flyers’ net.
In addition, North York received assists from Kyle Clarke and Christian Mitri, who contributed one each.
Orangeville stifled the Rangers’ power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. North York was unable to stop the Flyers from sending pucks towards the net, and Orangeville eventually piled up 41 shots on goal.
Zack Vukosa also scored for Orangeville. More assists for Orangeville came via James Ranson and Zack Lyons, who each chipped in one.
The Rangers’ Gianluca Baggetta stopped 39 shots out of the 41 that he faced. North York incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Nicholas Latinovich recorded 33 saves for the Flyers. Orangeville incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
