North York Rangers forwards Corey Kalk, John Carpino and Matthew Whittaker are part of a group of 27 players from the Ontario Junior Hockey League currently trying out for Team Canada East in hopes of participating in the World Junior ‘A’ Challenge.

North York athletic trainer Jay Izraelski has been selected to serve at the camp as well.

The camp, which runs from Oct. 28 to Nov. 1, is taking place at Sixteen Mile Sports Complex in Oakville, Ont., and also involves players from the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League, the Central Canadian Hockey League and the Quebec junior triple-A league.

North York is among only four teams in the OJHL with three or more players involved and should they be selected, they will represent Canada East at the international under-20 event that takes place from Nov. 4-10 in Yarmouth, N.S.

Rangers goaltender Jason Pucciarelli was selected to play in the 2011 tournament while a member of the Newmarket Hurricanes while Kalk was the only North York player to attend the camp one year ago.
