Franco Loparco scored with two minutes remaining in the third period to bring the Rangers within one goal, but it was as close as they got as they fell 4-2 in Orangeville on Saturday night.
North York dominated the scoring chances, out-shooting the Flyers 52-25, but Orangeville goaltender Bo Bessette had the answer at almost every turn.
Corey Kalk’s third-period tally was his 30th of the season, making the Rangers the second team in the OJHL with two in the 30-goal club.
With only four more games remaining in the regular season, North York will need to win out and receive some help in order to finish first in the Southwest Conference.
Coach John Dean’s team will look to rebound on Sunday afternoon when they host the Hamilton Red Wings; the puck drops at 3 p.m.
