On Wednesday night the North York Rangers took to the ice in their home opener against the Streeetsville Tigers, looking to start off the season with a win.
In a hard fought game, the Rangers Brenden Wise got the scoring underway with an unassisted goal at 8:39 of the first period. Shortly after teammate Austin McKay tallied North York’s second goal assisted by Mooney and Desjardins. It looked like North York was about to run away with it, until early in the second period when the Tigers retaliated with two goals to tie the game up at 2-2. Wise then scored his second of the game on a power play goal with 6 minutes left to give the Rangers the lead going into the third
After a quick goal by Streetsville early in the third, McKay potted his second of the night to put the Rangers up 4-3 with 7 minutes to go. With only 2 minutes left in the opening game Streetsville forward Justin Baker tied it up 4-4 to send the game into overtime, which eventually settled nothing.
Letting in the first shot in the shootout, goalie Lane Floro stopped the next 8 shooters before Tigers Matt Feric scored the game winning shootout goal. Rangers Kody Vaisanen was the only North York player to score in the shootout.
