It’s midway through October and you haven’t gotten a North York Rangers recap in 2 weeks! I’m sure all readers have been on the edge of their seats waiting to see what they’ve missed.

Here’s what you need to know from the first half of October.

North York didn’t play a game until October 7th, but since then they’ve played 3 games.

October opened up with a road game against the Cobourg Cougars. Down 1-0 late in the 2nd period, Andrew Artenosi (1) would score the first goal of his young career tying the game at 1. Unfortunately for the Rangers with 3 seconds left in the period, the Cougars would score giving them a 2-1 lead entering the final period.

With less than 6 minutes left in the 3rd the Rangers still trailing 2-1, North York would draw a penalty and get 1 of their 6 powerplays of the game. On the man advantage, it was Alexey Kulikov (2) who would score the game-tying goal and send the game to overtime.

Neither the first or second OT frame would decide a winner so the Rangers would tie for the first time all season, but came away with a point in the 2-2 tie.

Amir Valiullin made 41 saves.

Not a long break between games as the Rangers got right back to it at Herb Carnegie the next day at 4:00 pm where they took on the Wellington Dukes.

The quick turnaround caused some problems early on for the Rangers as they allowed three goals in the first 9 minutes of the game forcing the team to take their first time out, and a goalie change despite Valiullin playing 80 minutes less than 24 hours earlier. Wellington would strike first in the 2nd to build a 4-0 lead before Charlie Hotles (4) would score to cut the deficit to 3. Fast forward to the 3rd, and Matthew Babiy (5) would cut the deficit to just 2 but, that was as close as the Rangers would get. Wellington added an empty netter and the final score was 5-2.

The final game of the weekend was on the road against the Lindsay Muskies on Saturday, October 12th.

Lindsay scored the first 5 goals of the game and led 5-0 just 5 minutes into the 3rd. Cole Kirton (2) would get the first goal of the game for the Rangers followed by a powerplay goal by Jacob Owsicki (4) which cut the deficit to 3. But just like the game a few days prior, North York would lose by a score of 5-2.
