Rookie forward Grant Spence registered his first three OJHL goals to elevate the North York Rangers past the defending champion Wellington Dukes 5-1 at home.

The Rangers struck first just under seven minutes into the game. Ross Krieger set up Auston Stockie for his team-leading 10 point on the season. Spence potted the two goals around the crease in a five minute span to push North York’s lead to 3-0. The Dukes were able to cut into the lead before the interview thanks to Madoka Suzuki fourth goal of the season at 15:31 into the opening frame.
Stockie added to his point total with a perfectly places snap shot just over three minutes into the third. The game remained the same until 13 seconds left in the game. Instead of taking the slap shot, Joey Maziarz slap passed it to Spence and made a beautiful move going across the crease to complete the hat trick.
Jett Alexander made a season-high 27 saves to pick up fifth win of the season.
The Rangers don’t get much time to rest. They head to Cobourg (6-0-0-2) to battle the Cougars on Monday night. It marks the third straight night North York will step onto the ice.
